Book Discussions
Join a new library reading and discussion program! Upcoming 2008 dates:
May 22 Digging to America by Anne Tyler (the 2008 All Iowa Reads selection)
"Tyler (Breathing Lessons) encompasses the collision of cultures without losing her sharp focus on the daily dramas of modern family life in her 17th novel. When Bitsy and Brad Donaldson and Sami and Ziba Yazdan both adopt Korean infant girls, their chance encounter at the Baltimore airport the day their daughters arrive marks the start of a long, intense if sometimes awkward friendship. ... Though the novel's perspective shifts among characters, Maryam is at the narrative and emotional heart of the touching, humorous story, as she reluctantly realizes that there may be a place in her heart for new friends, new loves and her new country after all." Publishers Weekly.
Discussions are at 7:00 pm in the Heritage Room of the Marshalltown Public Library.
Please register at the Circulation Desk. A limited number of copies are available for check-out to reading program participants. For more information, call the library at 754-5738.

Automatically Yours:
Register for Marshalltown Public Library’s AUTOMATICALLY YOURS program and you will be placed on the reserve list for all the new books by the popular adult fiction authors you choose. (Limit: 5 authors per patron) It’s that easy!
- The goal of AUTOMATICALLY YOURS is to place titles in patron’s hands in a timely fashion. Everyone wants that new book as soon as possible. Now your name will be on reserve lists with very little effort on your part.
- Books by AUTOMATICALLY YOURS authors generally have a shorter, 10-day, circulation period.
- The order of patrons registered for each author will be rotated so that the same patron is not always at the top of the reserve list for a given author. Nor will a patron be at the same point on the reserve lists for all the authors s/he requests.
- Your record will remain on file for the duration. If you ever choose to modify it, complete another form, marking “redo.”
- For more information, contact Sandy at the Circulation Desk or Monica at the Reference Desk.
Copy and complete the Automatically Yours form and return via mail, fax or in person to the Circulation Desk. Your name will be added to the reserve list as each new title becomes available.
